China Visa from the UAE — What Actually Applies to You

China applications from the UAE are unusually document-strict, and almost all of the avoidable refusals we see come down to passport and residency technicalities rather than the trip itself. Everything is processed through a single centre in Dubai regardless of which emirate you live in.

Does this depend on my passport?

Emirati passport holders benefit from a mutual visa exemption for short stays. Other nationalities resident in the UAE apply in the normal way. A separate visa-free transit arrangement exists for eligible nationalities passing through designated Chinese ports — worth checking if China is a stopover rather than your destination.

Where the application is lodged

All applications go through the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in Dubai, whether you live in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or any other emirate.

Key points for China applications

  • Your passport needs at least six months' validity and at least two completely blank, adjacent visa pages — adjacent is the part applicants miss.
  • You must hold a valid UAE residence visa, and it should remain valid well beyond your intended return date.
  • Clear front and back copies of your Emirates ID are required, not just the front.
  • If you have held a Chinese visa before and it sits in an expired passport, submit that old passport alongside your current one.
  • Expedited processing is generally available at the centre for an additional fee if your travel date is tight.

What goes wrong most often

  • Blank pages that exist but are not adjacent to each other.
  • Submitting only the front of the Emirates ID.
  • Leaving an old passport containing a previous Chinese visa at home.
  • Applying when the UAE residence permit is close to expiry.

China visa questions we get from UAE residents

Where do UAE residents apply for a China visa?

Through the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in Dubai. This applies regardless of which emirate you live in — there is no separate centre for Abu Dhabi or Sharjah residents.

What are the passport requirements for a China visa?

At least six months' validity from your intended entry date, and at least two completely blank visa pages that are adjacent to one another. Pages scattered through the passport do not satisfy the requirement.

Do I need my old passport if it has a previous Chinese visa?

Yes. If a previous Chinese visa sits in an expired passport, you are generally expected to submit that old passport together with your current one, along with photocopies of the previous visa.

Do Emirati nationals need a visa for China?

Emirati passport holders benefit from a mutual visa exemption for short visits. Residents of the UAE holding other passports apply in the standard way through the CVASC in Dubai.

Rules change without notice. Fees, processing times and eligibility vary by nationality and are set by the destination authority, not by us. Always confirm the current position with the official source before you book travel. Chinese Visa Application Service Centre

Applying for a China Visa — What You Should Know

A quick guide to who this suits, what we take care of, what stays with you, and how to avoid the mistakes that most often slow an application down.

What You're Responsible For

  • Provide genuine, up-to-date documents (passport, bank statements, employment proof)
  • Sign the completed application form
  • Attend the VFS/embassy appointment and biometrics if the destination requires it
  • Cover the government/consulate fee directly — this is separate from our service fee

Common Mistakes We Help You Avoid

  • Submitting a passport with less than 6 months' validity
  • Bank statements that don't match the declared income or show large unexplained deposits
  • Photos that don't meet the destination's exact size/background specification
  • Inconsistent names or dates across passport, form, and supporting documents
  • Applying without a clear, honest travel purpose reflected in the cover letter

If You've Been Refused Before

A previous refusal — for China or elsewhere — doesn't rule out reapplying. We review the refusal letter, identify the gap, and rebuild your file to address it directly. No service can guarantee the outcome, but a stronger file is always worth preparing.
