NZ Accredited Employer Work Visa: 2026 Changes
The AEWV changed repeatedly through 2025 and 2026 — a new occupation list, revised wage rules and expanded English requirements. Here is what actually changed.
A Genuinely Changing Route
New Zealand's Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) has been revised repeatedly, and several of those changes affect whether you qualify. This is a work visa route, so it requires a job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer — it is not a general skilled-migration pathway you can enter on your own.
What Actually Changed
The occupation classification was replaced. From 3 November 2025, the National Occupation List (NOL) replaced the ANZSCO classification for skill levels 1 to 3, simplifying how roles are categorised.
The list expanded. Around 47 occupations were added to the NOL from March 2026, widening eligibility into areas including IT and healthcare roles.
The median wage requirement was removed. Since 10 March 2025, AEWV pay must be at the market rate for the role — what a New Zealander would be paid for the same job in the same region — and at or above the adult minimum wage. The previous blanket median-wage threshold no longer applies.
English requirements expanded. From 1 June 2026, Immigration New Zealand extended English language requirements to Skill Level 3 occupations under the AEWV.
Job change protections. From 17 November 2025, INZ can pause job-change applications where serious concerns are identified about an employer.
What This Means if You Are in the UAE
There is no UAE-specific fast-track for the AEWV, and you should be sceptical of anyone advertising one. The route works the same way wherever you apply from:
1. Secure a genuine job offer from a New Zealand employer holding accreditation.
2. The employer completes their part of the process.
3. You apply for the visa with your supporting evidence.
Your UAE residence is relevant only to where you lodge and where documents are verified — not to eligibility.
Before You Commit
Occupation lists, wage rules and English requirements move. Confirm the current position for your specific occupation on immigration.govt.nz before making any decisions, and verify that a prospective employer genuinely holds accreditation.
How We Help
We assist with document preparation and application review for work visa routes. We are a visa document consultancy — we do not place candidates in jobs, and we cannot secure a job offer or employer accreditation on your behalf.
