Schengen Visa Fee Rises to €90 from 11 June 2024

Source: EU visa fee regulation — confirm current fees with the relevant consulate

The Schengen short-stay visa fee rose from €80 to €90 for adults, with effect from 11 June 2024. Here is what it means for applicants based in the UAE.

The Change

The Schengen short-stay visa fee increased from EUR 80 to EUR 90 for adults, set by EU regulation and effective from 11 June 2024.

What Changed

  • Adults: EUR 80 → EUR 90
  • Children aged 6 to 11: EUR 40 → EUR 45
  • Children under 6: remain free
  • Effective: 11 June 2024

The fee is reviewed periodically under EU regulation, with adjustments reflecting administrative costs since the previous revision.

What It Means in the UAE

The consulate fee is charged in the local currency equivalent. On top of it, the visa application centre — VFS Global for most Schengen destinations here, TLScontact for France — charges its own service fee, which is set separately and is not part of the EU fee change.

Confirm both figures when you book your appointment rather than relying on any published estimate.

Both Fees Are Non-Refundable

This is the part worth internalising: the consulate fee and the application-centre service charge are generally non-refundable regardless of outcome. A refusal means paying both again on reapplication.

That is the real cost of a weak application, and it dwarfs the EUR 10 increase.

Practical Advice

  • Do not rush an incomplete application to beat a fee change. The maths never works.
  • Budget for the consulate fee, the centre's service fee, and travel insurance meeting the EUR 30,000 minimum.
  • Apply early for summer and school-holiday travel, when appointment availability in the UAE tightens sharply.

How We Help

We prepare the complete document file and check it against the destination's requirements before you submit, so the fee you pay is the only one you pay.
