A trip to Belgium is a Schengen short-stay application, so one authorisation covers the wider Schengen Area — but only if you lodge it with the right consulate, through the right operator. Belgium applications in the UAE are handled by VFS Global, and you apply here when Belgium is where you will spend the most nights.
Emirati nationals travel to the Schengen Area visa-free for short stays. Most other UAE residents apply for a short-stay (Type C) visa, and the requirements are essentially uniform across member states.
Belgian applications run through a joint VFS Global centre serving both the World Trade Centre Mall in Abu Dhabi and Wafi Mall in Dubai, but the Embassy in Abu Dhabi makes the final decision regardless of which centre you used. Apply to Belgium when it is your main destination by nights spent; if another Schengen country accounts for more of your stay, the application belongs with that country instead.
Apply to Belgium if it is where you will spend the most nights. If your nights are split evenly across several Schengen countries, apply to whichever one you enter first. Choosing a consulate because its appointments are easier to get is a common cause of avoidable problems.
Belgium charges the standard Schengen consulate fee: €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11, effective 11 June 2024; under-sixes are free. VFS Global adds its own service charge on top, set separately — confirm the current figure when you book your appointment.
