Sweden Visa from the UAE — What Actually Applies to You

A trip to Sweden is a Schengen short-stay application, so one authorisation covers the wider Schengen Area — but only if you lodge it with the right consulate, through the right operator. Sweden applications in the UAE are handled by VFS Global, and you apply here when Sweden is where you will spend the most nights.

Does this depend on my passport?

Emirati nationals travel to the Schengen Area visa-free for short stays. Most other UAE residents apply for a short-stay (Type C) visa, and the requirements are essentially uniform across member states.

Where the application is lodged

Swedish applications run through VFS Global in Dubai (Wafi Mall) and Abu Dhabi (World Trade Centre); the Embassy in Abu Dhabi makes every decision regardless of which centre was used, and explicitly disclaims any relationship with paid 'agents' beyond VFS. Apply to Sweden when it is your main destination by nights spent; if another Schengen country accounts for more of your stay, the application belongs with that country instead.

Key points for Sweden applications

  • Demand tends to surge for Northern-Lights travel (September–March) rather than the summer peak most other Schengen missions cite.
  • Standard fee is roughly EUR 80 for a 90-day Schengen-wide stay, with 15 calendar days' standard processing.
  • The Embassy states it does not cooperate with any external agents or intermediaries beyond VFS Global.
  • The visa fee, the €30,000 insurance minimum, the photo standard and the core document list are the same for every Schengen country — what changes with Sweden is who receives your file and how you book.

What goes wrong most often

  • Booking with the wrong operator — Sweden applications go through VFS Global in the UAE.
  • Applying on a UAE residence visa that has expired or been cancelled; most Schengen consulates here will refuse to accept it.
  • Applying to Sweden because its appointments are easier to get, when another Schengen country is your main destination by nights.

Sweden visa questions we get from UAE residents

Do I apply to Sweden or another Schengen country?

Apply to Sweden if it is where you will spend the most nights. If your nights are split evenly across several Schengen countries, apply to whichever one you enter first. Choosing a consulate because its appointments are easier to get is a common cause of avoidable problems.

How much is a Sweden visa from the UAE?

Sweden charges the standard Schengen consulate fee: €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11, effective 11 June 2024; under-sixes are free. VFS Global adds its own service charge on top, set separately — confirm the current figure when you book your appointment.

Rules change without notice. Fees, processing times and eligibility vary by nationality and are set by the destination authority, not by us. Always confirm the current position with the official source before you book travel. European Commission — Schengen visa policy

If You've Been Refused Before

A previous refusal — for Sweden or elsewhere — doesn't rule out reapplying. We review the refusal letter, identify the gap, and rebuild your file to address it directly. No service can guarantee the outcome, but a stronger file is always worth preparing.
