Luxembourg Visa from the UAE — What Actually Applies to You

A trip to Luxembourg is a Schengen short-stay application, so one authorisation covers the wider Schengen Area — but only if you lodge it with the right consulate, through the right operator. Luxembourg applications in the UAE are handled by Consulate-direct — Embassy of Luxembourg in Abu Dhabi, and you apply here when Luxembourg is where you will spend the most nights.

Does this depend on my passport?

Emirati nationals travel to the Schengen Area visa-free for short stays. Most other UAE residents apply for a short-stay (Type C) visa, and the requirements are essentially uniform across member states.

Where the application is lodged

Luxembourg has no VFS Global involvement at all, despite what some third-party sites claim: applications must be presented directly at the Consulate in Abu Dhabi, booked solely by email, with no online appointment portal. Apply to Luxembourg when it is your main destination by nights spent; if another Schengen country accounts for more of your stay, the application belongs with that country instead.

Key points for Luxembourg applications

  • Appointments are booked only by emailing the Consulate directly — there is no VAC booking system.
  • All applicants must appear in person to give fingerprints and a digital photograph.
  • Processing should not exceed 15 calendar days from receipt at the Embassy; allow 4–6 weeks depending on season.
  • The visa fee, the €30,000 insurance minimum, the photo standard and the core document list are the same for every Schengen country — what changes with Luxembourg is who receives your file and how you book.

What goes wrong most often

  • Booking with the wrong operator — Luxembourg applications go through Consulate-direct — Embassy of Luxembourg in Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
  • Applying on a UAE residence visa that has expired or been cancelled; most Schengen consulates here will refuse to accept it.
  • Applying to Luxembourg because its appointments are easier to get, when another Schengen country is your main destination by nights.

Luxembourg visa questions we get from UAE residents

Do I apply to Luxembourg or another Schengen country?

Apply to Luxembourg if it is where you will spend the most nights. If your nights are split evenly across several Schengen countries, apply to whichever one you enter first. Choosing a consulate because its appointments are easier to get is a common cause of avoidable problems.

Is there a VFS Global centre for Luxembourg in the UAE?

No. Luxembourg is the only Schengen mission here without any visa application centre or online booking portal — applications go directly to the Embassy of Luxembourg in Abu Dhabi, booked by email.

How much is a Luxembourg visa from the UAE?

Luxembourg charges the standard Schengen consulate fee: €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to 11, effective 11 June 2024; under-sixes are free.

Rules change without notice. Fees, processing times and eligibility vary by nationality and are set by the destination authority, not by us. Always confirm the current position with the official source before you book travel. European Commission — Schengen visa policy

If You've Been Refused Before

A previous refusal — for Luxembourg or elsewhere — doesn't rule out reapplying. We review the refusal letter, identify the gap, and rebuild your file to address it directly. No service can guarantee the outcome, but a stronger file is always worth preparing.
